Champions in Wetzikon!!!

Team Schöpp claimed the 20. International ZO Women’s Curling Tournament in Wetzikon (CH) with an undefeated 7-0 record after a 4:3 stolen victory over Mirjam Ott of Davos.  After the team scored 2 in the 5th end, there were blank ends in the 6th and 7th before Ott’s final draw of the 8th end slipped too far.  For Andrea, the victory made her the most successful skip in this event having won it 6 times in its 20 year history.  This event was a much needed boost for the team heading into next week’s European Championships in Moscow.

Europeans in Moscow

After a long and hard weekend in Oberstdorf for the European Qualification, the team was able to prevail in a tie-breaker over Team Driendl, and qualify for the Le Gruyère European Championships in Moscow in December!  At the end of the four-team double round-robin, Team Schöpp and Team Driendl were tied for the top on 5 wins and 1 loss which forced the tie-breaking game.  With the score tied in the 10th end, Andrea played a double peel with her first shot, and then made the hit for the win to claim the ticket to Moscow.  There are two bonspiels in Bern and Wetzikon and the Bavarian Championships left in preparation for Moscow.  The team goal is first and foremost to qualify Germany for the Ford Women’s World Championship in Lethbridge, and to make the playoffs.  Keep checking us here and on Facebook for more news leading up to Moscow :)

Summer Training

Hello everyone!  It’s July, and the summer is going by very quickly :(  However, we are busy preparing for what will be a difficult 2011-12 season.  We are enjoying the summer bonspiels, and training hard on the ice and in the gym to get fit and ready for what lies ahead this season.  The team is very excited for the competitive season to begin, and our first major goal will be to qualify for the Europeans in Moscow in December.  We know that it will be tough to qualify for Moscow, and if we do make it, it will be an even greater challenge to qualify Germany for the Worlds in Canada!  In spite of this challenge, we are ready to take it on, and are putting in the hard work to make these goals a reality :)  We hope that everyone is enjoying their summer so far!  Keep visiting our homepage and Facebook page (Facebook.com/TeamSchoepp) to keep up to date through the season.  All the best from Garmisch, Andrea :)

No title this year….

Em ChampéryThis year’s European Championships in Champéry did not have the ending like last year in Aberdeen as the team finished 7th place sitting on 4 wins and 5 defeats.  After a slow start to the week, the team finished strong with 2 wins over Latvia and Finland to qualify Germany for the upcoming 2011 Capital One World Women’s Championship in Esbjerg (DK).  Despite not being able to defend last year’s European crown, the team is looking forward to an exciting 2011.  During the holiday season, the team will be training hard for the Continental Cup of Curling in St. Albert (CAN) where they will be part of Team World which will take on Team North America.  The focus will then shift to the DM in Oberstdorf which will serve as the qualification for the Worlds in Denmark.  Thanks to everyone for their support during the week in Champéry, and we look forward to the rest of the season! Have a safe and happy holiday season, and a very happy new year ;)

Champéry!

champeryA very snowy Champéry welcomed Europe’s best curlers for this year’s Le Gruyère European Curling Championships.  Team Schöpp will have a tough task to defend the title won last year in Aberdeen.  After two days of competition, the team sits at 2-2 with the Swiss.  On Day 1, they opened against Eve Muirhead’s Scottish side with a tough 5:8 loss, but then followed the defeat with a victory against Lene Nielsen’s Danish side 9:3.  On Day 2, the Germans started with a morning victory against a tough Dutch side with an 11:8 score, scoring 2 in the 10th to solidify the win.  In the evening though, they lost a disappointing game to Norway’s Linn Githmark with a 3:4 score, giving up a steal of 1 in the 10th.  Nonetheless, it is early in the competition, and still 5 games left.  Monday has two games scheduled against Sweden (4-0) at 12:00 CET and Russia (3-1) at 20:00 CET.

3rd Place at Wetzikon….

Team Schöpp continued their success on the Curling Champions Tour this season with a 3rd place finish at Wetzikon in the ZO Frauenturnier.  After finishing 4-1 in their pool, they claimed a quarter-final victory over Nicole Dünki before losing to Binia Feltscher of Flims 5:6 in the semi-final.  In the 3rd place game, they had a victory over Eve Muirhead’s rink from Scotland.  With the win in Wetzikon, the team now sits 2nd in the CCT Standings behind Mirjam Ott. Next up is Champéry!!!
